  • Dec. 17. Feeding Ethanol Co-products to Beef and DDGS to Swine program. 1 to 4 p.m. WIT auditorium, Cherokee. Preregistration by Dec. 13 is $10 per person. Walk-in registration is $15 per person. The seminar features concurrent sessions for beef and pork producers on the storage, feeding and management of ethanol co-products, with speakers from ISU, South Dakota State University and University of Minnesota.   • Nov. 6. Mastering the matrix and other manure matters, ICN program, 7 to 9
    p.m. Program agenda includes ISU economist John Lawrence, pork producer John Korslund and and ISU economist Mike Duffy. Lawrence and Korslund were members of the Master Matrix Technical Advisory Committee and will present info on the reasoning, definitions and scoring factors of the matrix. Duffy will talk about the availability of funding assistance to livestock producers provided by the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP). Attendees will learn how to effectively communicate concerns about the matrix during the upcoming public comment period. Origination site on ISU campus. Cost is $10 per person.

  • Oct. 25. Dr. Palmer Holden will retire at the end of October, completing 30 years with Iowa State University Animal Science Extension. Reception is set for Oct. 25 from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Great Hall of the ISU Memorial Union in Ames.
  • Oct. 12. Chuckwagon Breakfast, Farm Bureau Livestock Pavilion in Kildee Hall, ISU campus. Coffee will be ready at 7:45 a.m. with food service following from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Suggested donation is $1 per person.
  • Oct. 2. Surviving the Hog Market Price Crunch, satellite program, 7 to 9 p.m. This program will feature presentations by ISU ag economist John Lawrence on hog inventories and expectations, options for price protection, and managing cash flow including opportunities to consolidate and refinance debt. Other topics and speakers may be added. Cost is $10 per person. Check the list of county ISUE offices that will host this program.

  • Sept. 24-26. Farm Progress Show. IPIC has a display in the Iowa State University hoop building on the west end of the grounds, near the field demonstrations. Our display focuses on biofilters and carcass composting, and several campus and field specialists will present short informational sessions in the next door hoop building auditorium. Admission is $5 and parking is free. Plan your route to the show, located near Alleman in central Iowa.
  • Sept. 18-20. 2002 Swine Educators Conference. Sponsored by the National Pork Board and held at Embassy Suites on the River, Des Moines.
